Development and Peace, the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada, joins the interfaith appeal from Canada’s Faith communities in response to the famine crisis in Africa and Yemen:’Our join appeal is a unified cry from the heart, with one voice and one message. Ours is the insistent call for peace and the need to protect the vulnerable. The protection and promotion of human dignity are foundational elements of all our faith communities. As international solidarity organizations, we have been active for many years in the countries affected by this famine and humanitarian crisis.

We are in a position to respond effectively by supporting our local partners already working with the most vulnerable populations. This famine is a devastating consequence of armed conflicts in the affected regions.

Women and children are always particularly vulnerable and represent the bast majority of victims in the food crisis taking place in South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and Yemen. 20 million are at risk of starvation.’

Pause for Perspective Retreats: Deepening Our Awareness of God @ St. Augustine's Parish Centre
Aug 25 @ 9:30 am – 1:00 pm

Deepening Our Awareness of God

Friday, August 25, 2017    |  9.30-1pm
St. Augustine’s Parish Centre, Kitsilano

Led by Esther Hizsa

Join us for an end-of-summer retreat – a perfect time to stop, breathe and reflect on what the fall will bring us. Everyone welcome. This retreat is ideal for beginners and for all those who wish to spend a relaxing, quiet morning.

Despite all evidence to the contrary, God is present—always working in our lives to redeem us and all things in Christ. Despite all evidence to the contrary, we are rooted and grounded in a love that is wider, deeper, and higher than we can imagine.

The Bible says it, but it’s hard to believe sometimes. We’d like more evidence that it’s true.

As we take time away with Christ, our awareness of God’s loving action in our lives is deepened. We begin to notice God’s presence and gather that evidence. We discover that God is, in fact, with us, in us and for us.

Come and spend a morning with God. We will listen to stories and scripture and spend short periods of time in silent prayer, receiving what our hearts long to hear.

Esther Hizsa is a local spiritual director, co-facilitator of SoulStream’s Living From The Heart course and author of Stories of an Everyday Pilgrim. She posts weekly reflections on her blog An Everyday Pilgrim

Cost – $50, lunch included.
