Last month 900 civic leaders (including the Premier and the Lieutenant Governor) joined together at the 24th Annual B.C. Leadership Prayer Breakfast.  It was both a fascinating experience and a privilege, as we gathered to pray for the Province and the leaders of our society - in every field, including the professions, labour, government, education, forestry, sports, etc.  This annual event occurs not only in Vancouver and Ottawa but in most provinces in Canada and in many major cities world-wide including London, Washington, D.C. and Pretoria.

The speaker, Al McDonald, former Chairman and CEO of McKinsey & Co. world-wide, spoke to a captivated audience about his life, and the lessons learned along the way.

He said "I have had the privilege of succeeding in most areas of life we all desire: in power - I have been assistant to the President of the United States; in money - I have made more than I need; in prestige - I led major world-wide organizations and sat on leading boards in Canada, Europe and the USA.  I come to you in part, confessing that none of these successes were really satisfying - I kept looking - I finally found peace and purpose in life in my spiritual search that ultimately led me to a faith in Jesus Christ."

At the end of his talk, he received a standing ovation - somehow everyone sensed that Al McDonald had given us a precious gift - the truth about himself and the essence of life.  His final comment was to quote Proverbs 3:5-6.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

For a brief Holy moment all of us had life in perspective, temporal things dimmed, Eternal issues held our attention.

What a way to start the day.

Blessings
