Priscilla was a top sales producer in her company. However, she argued with her work mates and the management. Her poor attitude was negatively affecting cooperation in the sales team. Management was also wondering about her suitability for promotion, and indeed, whether she was worth the trouble she caused.
As the workplace chaplain, I had talked with her several times. Then, one day she showed up at the office with bruises on her face and I learned that she was having problems at home. Over a number of one-to-one talks, Priscilla shared information about her family of origin, her fears, and her relationship with her husband and son. Giving Priscilla supportive counsel allowed Priscilla to accept the fact that she had been mixing her personal problems with her professional role. Within a short period of time, Priscilla’s tension decreased around her job and her productivity increased while relationships with her work mates improved greatly.
