City in Focus Breakfast Presents Philip Owen
Philip Owen is best known for his time as the Mayor of Vancouver. He was elected Vancouver’s 42nd Mayor in November 1993 and served three terms until the end of 2002, making him Vancouver’s longest serving consecutive-term Mayor.
Before his years as Mayor, Philip spent much of this time in various spheres of public service. He entered civic politics in 1978 after being elected to the Vancouver Parks Board. In 1986 he became a member of the City Council and served there for seven years. In the spring of 2008, Philip Owen was awarded Canada’s highest honour, member, The Order of Canada.
Most known for his work regarding drug policy, Philip and his wife, Brita, have enjoyed travelling together to Drug Policy Reform Conferences in Europe, Canada, USA, and Afghanistan. They currently reside in Vancouver.
