PAUSE FOR PERSPECTIVE
Spiritual Day Retreats
In the early 90s CIF offered day retreats for the business community providing the opportunity to spend part of a day in a guided retreat where one could relax, reflect and pray. The goal was to literally “pause for perspective” in one’s life away from a busy world for spiritual growth through quiet time, prayer and meditation. Upcoming retreats will draw from the well-established traditions of Ignatian Spirituality, originating from the Jesuits over 500 years ago, and from the newer models seen in SoulStream and Imago Dei. We are excited about this new adventure and have determined to provide places to meet and people to facilitate who can best bring us into a space that enables us to quickly find refreshment and restoration – time out. We recognize a deep yearning for stillness and retreat from everyday activities. Our souls ache to slow down. As City in Focus continues its mission to “care for the soul of the city”, we intend to continue offer a series of facilitated retreats for up to 15 participants.
So far this year we have hosted a Staff Retreat facilitated by our partner Christopher Chiu as well as a July afternoon when we gathered a group of leaders in the field of non-profit ministry to those on the margins. We were led by Ted Penton SJ in a 4 hour retreat. At the end of September, Chris Chiu offered an Ignatian Spirituality retreat at St. Augustine’s parish. In November, Fr. Matthew Johnson will offer a retreat on the Eucharist and mystical experience at St. James’ Anglican Church. We are convinced this will be a significant work in the city using the vast connections of City in Focus to offer retreats that are inter-denominational, authentic and safe.
