When You Don’t Know What’s Next, Remember Who is First

June 2026

Dear Friends,

Change is a towering presence in modern society, carrying massive global, local, and personal consequences. In contemplating the relentless transitions that invade our daily lives, I am reminded of a humorous story I heard years ago about the bewildering effects of change, as told by a farmer:

"It all started back in '66 when they changed from pounds to dollars—that doubled my overdraft.

After that, they changed the rain to millimeters, and we haven't had an inch of rain since. If that wasn't enough, they changed acres to hectares and I ended up with only half the land I had.

By this time I'd had enough and decided to sell out. I put the property on the market, and then they changed from miles to kilometers. Now I'm just too far out of town for anyone to buy the place."

Today, we're confronted with change brought on by such revolutionary developments as AI, global trade realignments, new national boundaries, economic transformation, international alliances, and the questions about ethics and morals which underpin society. Even churches globally have conflicting views on structure, politics, scriptural, and doctrinal issues. Confusion, stress, and insecurity result. We hardly know who we are or where we are going.

In the midst of our rapidly changing world, we can hold onto something that is unchangeable—the presence and love of God. When our own experiences become overwhelming, we can lean on these words from the Scriptures:

“For I, the LORD, do not change.” — Malachi 3:6

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8

“The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God will stand forever.” — Isaiah 40:8

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” — Romans 8:31

These verses remind us that when life feels like a moving target, God is an anchor. The world at times is spinning, but the Rock of Ages does not budge. When tomorrow is a question mark, God is the certain answer. Everything changes but Him. Many people I know in today's marketplace have found the sense of peace and perspective that faith in God brings. The invitation is open to all.

Blessings,

Tom Cooper
